Your first Chiropractic treatment, what to expect.

Your first chiropractic treatment

Have you ever had a chiropractic treatment? Chiropractic has been proven to be one of the most effective ways to treat back and neck pain. But if you’ve never been to a chiropractor in Framingham, you might not know what to expect on your first visit. For one thing, depending on your condition, it’s very similar to seeing any doctor. There will be paperwork, so be sure to arrive a few minutes before your scheduled appointment so that you have plenty of time to complete the necessary forms. Many chiropractors today use an electronic notes system which can help you save time by sending you the forms in an email with a secure link so that you can fill them out before your appointment.

In general there are typically three stages in the process of getting your first chiropractic treatment:

1. Initial Consultation:

At this point the Chiropractor will review the patient’s medical history and subjective information on the symptoms they are having. The forms you complete will help you detail your symptoms and paint a picture of what may be the cause of your pain.

2. Examination:

chiropractic exams are very thorough and will include tests like blood pressure, pulse, height, weight, etc. The exam may also include orthopedic and neurological tests to help determine and assess the range of motion in the affected areas.

3. Diagnostics:

From the results of the initial exam, the Chiropractor may order additional diagnostic testing, depending on the findings of the exam and based on your medical history. Tests may include x-rays, MRI or other types of laboratory testing.

Once the exam and diagnosis are completed your Chiropractor determines whether or not a chiropractic treatment is your best option at that time. You will receive treatment plan, and they will also provide you with some guidelines of care that they feel will be effective. This could include several techniques performed by the Chiropractor and also may include instruction on some stretches and exercises you can do at home. The chiropractor should also be able to give you an idea of how long the care should continue on for.
